Guilty Until Proven Innocent!

Guilty Until Proven Innocent: New York’s Injustice System –  Learn more @ bitly/injustice-syracuse

On any given day, 25,000 New Yorkers are held in county jails across our state, where human rights violations, racial disparities, violence, and medical neglect are commonplace. Our jails are unjust, unsafe and inhumane. Despite a steady decrease in crime, many county jails have grown – some even doubling in size.

Onondaga County alone jails 1,000+ people daily. 63% are pre-trial detainees who have not been convicted. They are legally innocent but trapped, often because they cannot afford bail or because their Constitutional rights to Due Process and a fair and speedy trial are routinely violated. This is a mockery of justice, and New Yorkers deserve better.

Join us for a criminal justice forum to:

  • Discuss the injustices of bail and the court system
  • Hear from community leaders who have been directly impacted by our broken bail, speedy trial, and discovery laws
  • Learn what you can do to demand change.

Together, New Yorkers across the state are building a safer, more just world that invests in communities, not incarceration. Join us.

Dinner + refreshments provided at 5:30pm. Main program 6-8pm.
