May 17 marks the 69th anniversary of the landmark Brown vs. Board of Education U.S. Supreme Court decision de-segregating public schools. In this milestone decision, the Supreme Court ruled that separating children in public schools on the basis of race was unconstitutional. It signaled the end of legalized racial segregation in the schools of the United States, overruling the “separate but equal” principle set forth in the 1896 Plessy v. Ferguson case.

Working closely with NAACP, Dr. King and the SCLC organized sit-ins in public spaces and the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom in 1963, which attracted 250,000 people to rally for the civil and economic rights of…

Vote Like Our Lives Depend On It!
It wasn’t until 1965, after years of intimidation, murders, and advocacy that the path to the voting booth was cleared for Black people with the federal Voting Rights Act of 1965. The Act is a bedrock law protecting every American’s right to register to vote and cast their ballot. It remains one of the hardest-fought safeguards for Black Americans and other minority groups.

As we heard the cries of this child, it is inconceivable to think of the terror he has experienced. The NAACP stands in opposition of this kind of interaction with children. Our position is to…
